Brett R Blecha

Brett Blecha was born, raised and spent his entire life within the James B. Conant High School boundaries, splitting time between Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg.  He was the oldest child of Bob and Connie and an older brother and role model to Scott and Kimberly.  Brett started his educational career as a student at Adolph Link Elementary School before moving and attending Fairview Elementary School, followed by Helen Keller Junior High School, and eventually James B. Conant High School.

In high school, Brett was very active both academically and athletically. He participated in football, baseball and the throwing events for track & field.  While being heavily involved in extra-curricular activities, he still took his studies very seriously taking various AP and Honors courses. He was also a member of National Honor Society as well as other clubs and activities.  He was truly the epitome of a student-athlete.  It was during his time at CHS when he started taking electives in the Applied Technology department, like CAD Drafting, where he found his passion and decided to advance his education in this field.

After graduating from James B. Conant High School in 2001, he furthered his education by attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and majoring in Architecture.  Brett completed his undergraduate degree in 2005 and stayed at U of I to complete his Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering in 2007. After graduating from U of I, Brett began working at Larson Engineering.

In his time at Larson Engineering, Brett oversaw a multitude of projects.  He oversaw the noise walls on the side of Route 53, I-90, I-294 and I-390.  He also did some work for the Brookfield Zoo and the iFly in Rosemont and Naperville.  Chances are you have passed by some of his work without even knowing it.  Eventually Brett’s focus changed to wind turbines and wind farms where he spent many weeks on site in locations such as Indiana (Fowler Ridge Wind Farm), Washington (Palouse Wind Farm), Missouri (Lost Creek Ridge Wind Farm), and his favorite, Hawaii (Kahuku Wind Farm).

Brett passed away unexpectedly on October 1st, 2015.  Brett was always someone who was looking out for other people and would help anyone in any way that he could.  In his honor, we have created the Brett R. Blecha Memorial Scholarship as a way for him to continue helping others even though he cannot.
